We’ve Got a Bleeder!

The adventure continues!  Just found out I’ve got internal bleeding 🙂  My team and I are hoping we can BIOTP, (Blame It On The Prednisone) and not something more serious.  To rule out the more serious, I had CT scans of my chest, abdomen and pelvis.  The procedure was not a big deal.  I just felt like I was on fire from the inside out.  Thankfully, the results came back normal, and I am now looking forward to a colonoscopy and an upper endoscopy to try to find the source of the bleeding.  Of course, because IHNFP (I Have No F-ing Platelets), I will have platelet transfusion #8 immediately preceding these fun-filled procedures.

Being that I’ve been on Prednisone for over a month now, I can really start to see the famous side effects kicking in.  I have FUSUOLS (F-ed Up Super Ugly Old Lady Skin) big time!  It also appears I am storing acorns in my cheeks that will last me the fall and winter.  It is probably/hopefully the cause of my internal bleeding, since it is often associated with small tears in the stomach and/or intestines.  It’s true – PAB (Prednisone’s A Bitch).  Prednisone is not my only med, however.  I am taking a multitude of pills throughout the day to try to keep my blood levels where they should be, and my team is planning on adding more soon.

I am a survivor of two extremely rare diseases, thanks to over 100 blood transfusions and ultimately, a bone marrow transplant. My blog, joselynsbrawl.com, chronicles my adventures through medical offices, operating rooms, clinics, transfusion centers, hospital transplant floors, victory celebrations, and finally my bucket list items – all with a humorous and sometimes profane twist. My goal is to inspire others not to give up on life or anything else, and to understand that it’s actually possible to enjoy any experience, even battling a life-threatening illness (or two).
